My friend and I took in "Book of Mormon" in NYC this past weekend. Had read rave reviews about this production and really look forward to seeing it.
To be fair, I will comment on the musical from two aspects: the players and then the play.
The players were all very good in their respective roles. IMO, they really gave it their all, and tried very hard to make their individual contributions excellent.
As for the musical, I have zero and NO positive comments to make. The musical was rank, sophomoric, puerile, flat out crass and vile, and pretty condescending. It isn't irreverant -- I like irreverant; it's just stupid. Should have surmised what kind of production the creators of "South Park" would come up with. Besides hard working, excellent performances of rancid, idiotic nonsense, the Book of Mormon musical was a total and complete waste of significant amounts of money and time. Blah!
